Taipei officially Taipei City, is the capital[a] and a special municipality of Taiwan. Located in Northern Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city of Keelung. Most of the city rests on the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.

Air Quality Sensing Wherever You Go in Taipei
|
The proposed project will develop portable AirBox devices to facilitate mobile air quality monitoring, with a focus on PM2.5 sensing, in Taipei city. The device is small-sized and light-weight, and it uses the LoRa technology for low-power and long-range data communication. The expected results of this project are:
- it promotes citizen engagement of wearable environmental monitoring ranging from walking, jogging to cycling;
- it provides a finer spatio-temporal granularity of air quality monitoring results for further data analysis and environment awareness; and
- it interconnects government, academia, industry, and maker community for social good and real-world impacts.

Global Organization of Smart Cities GO SMART
|
* Currently many cities in the world are facing similar challenges and have therefore developed their own Smart City strategy and are running their own Smart City projects. Considering the similarity of the challenges, there lies huge potential in effective knowledge exchange and collaboration.
- GO SMART aims to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange between Smart Cities, by means of one-on-one matchmaking, opportunity reports and workshops.

Taipei Smart City Living Lab
|
* Taipei has been transformed into a living lab through the efforts of public-private partnership. The matchmaking mechanism efficiently solves city problems and citizen demands, as well as instantly promoting government plans and integrating private resources. It is a much more positive and comprehensive approach, compared to the methods adopted by other cities, promoting their projects either in a top-down or bottom-up fashion.
- Once this matching mechanism matures, Taiwan’s smart city industry will be in full motion and many solutions will be quickly copied by other international cities. At that point, Taipei will become a focal point for the smart city brand and best practice model.

Taipei Smart City Programme
|
Taipei Smart City revolves around
- turning the city into a living lab, meaning Taipei City is the test ground for innovative city solutions.
- making Taipei City government function as a platform for city stakeholders to innovate the city, rather than as a planning and directing organisation.
- turn Taipei Smart City into an independent platform, supported by multiple city stakeholders, including the government, industry partners and knowledge institutes.
