Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), NextEra Energy Resources, LLC and BlackRock Renewable Power (BlackRock) today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to lay the foundation for a proposed joint venture (JV) to design, develop, install and operate a nationwide, high-performance charging network for medium- and heav-duty battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the U.S. With the goal of accelerating the rollout of carbon-neutral freight transportation, start of operations for the future JV is planned for 2022. Initial funding is expected to be comprised of approximately $650 million divided equally among the three parties.  +

Air Pollution is an urgent problem linked to as many as nine million deaths per year worldwide and 14,000 annually in Canada, primarily from related heart and lung diseases. On UBC campus, sources of air pollution include personal vehicles, construction, restaurants, and businesses. In fact, the BC Air Quality Health Index can change from “Low-Risk” to “High-Risk” on campus during air pollution events such as wildfires. To address this, we have installed a network of 8 low-cost air quality sensors across UBC campus to measure air pollutant concentrations at different locations on campus.  +

Alongside their transformative potential for good, AI systems also pose risks of harm. These risks include inaccurate or false outputs; unlawful discriminatory algorithmic decision making; destruction of jobs and the dignity of work; and compromised privacy, safety, and security. Given their influence and ubiquity, these systems must be subject to security and operational mechanisms that mitigate risk and warrant stakeholder trust that they will not cause harm.  +

A new bill introduced Friday by US Senator Angus King of Maine could unlock the true potential of electric school buses and provide stability to communities in need. The BIDIRECTIONAL Act would “create a program dedicated to deploying electric school buses with bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) flow capability.”  +
BMW of North America and Electrify America today announced an agreement to provide 2022 BMW EV customers with two years of 30-minute complimentary charging sessions at all Electrify America public charging stations, from the date of vehicle purchase. The program will launch with the sale of the new all-electric BMW iX xDrive50, BMW i4 eDrive40 and BMW i4 M50 in March.  +

BYD on October 15 launched Latin America’s first electric bus corridor serviced by electric buses from BYD in the Chilean capital of Santiago, in partnership with local operators Enel X and Metbus, which was attended by Chilean President, Sebastián Piñera; Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt; Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet; Minister of the Environment, Carolina Schmidt and other officials, plus executives from COP25. This move consolidates Chile as the region’s leader in electric mobility, with a total fleet of 285 operational pure electric buses from BYD.  +
Released in 2017 by the Barcelona City Council, Decidim ("we decide" in Catalan) is a free and open digital platform for democratic participation that is maintained and developed by a community of users. The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. On a technical level, Decidim is a framework (or development environment) designed using the Ruby on Rails development software.
