Suwon Research Institute is the first research institute established by the basic local government in Korea in March 2013 , this institute is a Suwon-si think tank established and operated with the will of Suwon citizens .

Activities

		GO-PS Gyeonggi Open Platform for SmartCity
		GO⋅PS is a smart city standard platform to utilize the element technology of the age of 4th Industrial Revolution as a means to solve urban problems. The Gyeonggi Province of Korea, along with Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI) and Gyeonggido Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA), is currently creating and operating an industry-academia-related consultative body to create a sustainable business model. GO⋅PS matches companies, research institutes, and academics according to the demand of public urban matters, and uses its technologies, research works, and consulting methods to create solutions for problems and have them collected on the platform. The GO・PS is currently comprised of three large departments namely, Smart Transport, Smart Energy, and Smart Healthcare. (It is planned to be expanded with more departments in the future)
		Gyeonggi Provincial virtual power plant in Gyeonggi Open Platform for Smart city
		This is a project concept which is to create citizen-led, decentralized, local energy-based society that builds foundations on which the distributed resources (ESS, solar power) in the region that can proliferate profitable models which citizens invest, own, trade and operate. This is to create an urban energy storage based on the optimal ESS (energy storage) introduction feasibility analysis in accordance with Energy usage analysis (big data). This project intends to revitalize the energy production distribution resources through citizen-led photovoltaic power generation by developing photovoltaic energy on rooftop of the buildings along with development of photovoltaic energy in rural areas. It intends to create power trading ecosystem that utilize distributed resources such as energy management efficiency by utilizing energy use analysis and citizen-led photovoltaic prosumer.
		IoT-based Smart Energy Management System for Smart Green City
		The purpose of this research is to develop the convergence technologies of IoT-based smart energy management system that can minimize building energy use and utility bills. To accomplish the goal, The research objectives are proposed in the followings: Development of IoT-based optimal control and performance evaluation technology based on big data analysis, Development of IoT- based smart energy management platform, IoT devices, and application technology Development of 3D object-oriented information modeling and data visualization based on Geographic information system(GIS) Establishment of test-beds with an integrated smart energy management system

The Institute is concentrating on improving the future-oriented values ​​and global competitiveness of cities while inheriting the historicity of Suwon .

In addition, by diagnosing various urban problems that Suwon City is facing, creative and innovative solutions are sought , and useful research that citizens need , one step further, we strive to achieve practical changes in citizens' lives .

The research institute aims to become a compass that advances Suwon into a higher advanced city , a global city, and a future-oriented city .

In addition , the role and responsibilities of the Suwon Municipal Research Institute for the development of a larger Suwon city with 1.25 million special cases and for improving the quality of life of a welcoming human environment city and Suwon citizens are strengthened, and in this era where citizens are the masters , researchers of researchers .
